ABOUT ABOUT

The Consumerized Patient: Engaging with mobile

With the rise of patient consumerism in a time of massive healthcare reform and regulatory change, innovation in the mobile and wireless health space have exploded. New social norms, generational attitudes, collaboration, crowdsourcing and other economic trends are all relevant factors that are driving innovation in health related engagement.

Mobile health (mHealth) holds the promise to improve health care at the right time and the right place - fundamentally transforming the way health care is delivered and how we manage and perceive our own personal health. mHealth has the potential to improve communications and opportunities for changes in how health, wellness and chronic conditions are managed – with the goal of providing better care, enhanced experiences and ultimately healthier outcomes.

Mobile Monday Mid Atlantic’s 2014 mHealth Forum will focus on why mobile matters. Learn about mHealth solutions that improve satisfaction, efficiency and compliance among payers, providers, patients, and other healthcare stakeholders. We will discuss the benefits and the challenges in developing, deploying and using mobile technology for engagement programs designed to improve the quality and outcome of patient care, including wellness programs that provide high levels of returns leading to reductions in health care costs while promoting healthier lifestyles.

Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic welcomes Dr. Shoshanna Sofaer, Dr.P.H. as our 2014 mHealth Forum keynote speaker. In her address, she will talk about the challenges that face patients/ consumers at present in healthcare, to which mobile apps may be a response. Dr. Sofaer is a highly engaging speaker and the Robert P. Luciano Professor of Health Care Policy at the School of Public Affairs, Baruch College, City University of New York.  Her major research interests include patient engagement, patient-centered care, patient experience surveys, public deliberation to guide health policy, comparative quality and cost reporting and developing quality measures that resonate with the public.  She is recognized for her expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research, and teaches, presents and consults widely in that area.  Dr. Sofaer has over 60 publications in peer reviewed journals and has completed over 40 research projects.
